This Doctor of Science program is ordinarily for students with a previous clinical degree, designed for those interested in immunology, molecular biology, virology, and the epidemiology of diseases. The program prepares students for postdoctoral fellowships and/or junior faculty positions at academic institutions; and positions in independent scientific research institutions, governmental agencies, and the biotechnology industry. Students need to identify an area of study with a specific project and to have the approval from an IID faculty mentor before applying. The course schedule section will largely depend on the student's area of work and chosen advisor. (No sample course schedule is available for this degree.)
Students wishing to study cellular and molecular biology, immunology, virology, or physiology as it pertains to major problems in public health should apply to the PhD program offered by the Division of Biological Sciences through the Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The PhD program is designed to train sceintists in state-of-the-art concepts and methods in immunology, immune system disorders, virology, biology of parasites, or important infectious diseases.
